01 — Scope
LUX-02 defines task illumination for surfaces where visual work occurs: kitchen counters, bathroom vanity, home desk, and bedside reading. Task layers operate independently from ambient (LUX-01) and are switched or dimmed on separate circuits.
02 — Core Parameters
| Parameter | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen counter — Eh | 300–500 lx | Measured at 850 mm AFF, full counter depth |
| Bathroom vanity — Eh | 300 lx | At mirror face, both sides lit to avoid shadows |
| Desk / study — Eh | 300–500 lx | 500 lx if sustained computer + paperwork use |
| Bedside reading — Eh | 200–300 lx | Localised; must not spill to partner side |
| CCT | 2700–3000 K | Match ambient layer within ± 200 K |
| CRI (Ra) | ≥ 90 | Critical for kitchen colour judgement |
| UGR at task position | ≤ 16 | Under-cabinet and desk luminaires |
03 — Surface-by-Surface Specification
| Surface | Mounting | Spacing / throw | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen counter (straight run) | Under-cabinet LED strip | Continuous, 3000 K, 12 W/m max | Recessed profile preferred in Västra Hamnen handleless kitchens |
| Kitchen island | Pendant trio or linear suspension | 600 mm spacing, 750 mm above counter | Coordinate with downdraft or extractor height |
| Vanity mirror | Vertical sidelight or frosted front bar | 150 mm inset from mirror edge | Ribersborg bathrooms often ≤ 4 m² — compact fixtures only |
| Home desk | Adjustable arm or desk lamp | 400–600 mm from eye, 45° angle | Separate from monitor bias lighting |
| Bedside | Wall-mounted reading arm | 400 mm reach, onboard dimmer | Hardwired preferred over plug-in for clean sightlines |
04 — Prose — Layer Interaction
Task layers should reach target illuminance without requiring ambient at full output. In combined scenes, ambient is typically held at 30–50% while task runs at 100%. This prevents excessive contrast ratios that cause eye fatigue during evening meal preparation — a common issue in open-plan Malmö renovations where kitchen and living share a single dimming zone if not properly circuited.
