Common Lantern Lighting

Residential lighting specs for Malmö homes

01 — Scope

LUX-02 defines task illumination for surfaces where visual work occurs: kitchen counters, bathroom vanity, home desk, and bedside reading. Task layers operate independently from ambient (LUX-01) and are switched or dimmed on separate circuits.

02 — Core Parameters

ParameterValueNotes
Kitchen counter — Eh300–500 lxMeasured at 850 mm AFF, full counter depth
Bathroom vanity — Eh300 lxAt mirror face, both sides lit to avoid shadows
Desk / study — Eh300–500 lx500 lx if sustained computer + paperwork use
Bedside reading — Eh200–300 lxLocalised; must not spill to partner side
CCT2700–3000 KMatch ambient layer within ± 200 K
CRI (Ra)≥ 90Critical for kitchen colour judgement
UGR at task position≤ 16Under-cabinet and desk luminaires

04 — Prose — Layer Interaction

Task layers should reach target illuminance without requiring ambient at full output. In combined scenes, ambient is typically held at 30–50% while task runs at 100%. This prevents excessive contrast ratios that cause eye fatigue during evening meal preparation — a common issue in open-plan Malmö renovations where kitchen and living share a single dimming zone if not properly circuited.
