01 — Scope
LUX-01 defines the ambient (general) illumination layer for residential rooms in Malmö apartments. Ambient light establishes baseline visibility, spatial perception, and circadian-friendly evening transitions. This spec covers living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, and open-plan zones. Task-specific surfaces are addressed in LUX-02.
02 — Core Parameters
| Parameter | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Reference standard | EN 12464-1 (residential guidance) | Adapted for Swedish practice |
| Living / dining — maintained Eh | 150–200 lx | At 0.85 m floor plane, all points |
| Bedroom — maintained Eh | 100–150 lx | Higher end for reading alcoves without task layer |
| Uniformity Uo | ≥ 0.40 | Min/average on working plane |
| CCT (day/evening) | 2700–3000 K | 3000 K preferred in Västra Hamnen north-facing units |
| CRI (Ra) | ≥ 90 | All ambient sources |
| UGR ( seated eye height) | ≤ 19 | Living and dining positions |
03 — Malmö-Specific Considerations
Ribersborg flats built 1920–1940 typically have ceiling heights of 2.55–2.70 m with decorative plaster cornices. Recessed downlights must be set back from cornice lines; surface-mounted discs or cove uplighting are often preferable to preserve ceiling character.
Västra Hamnen units with south- and west-facing Öresund views receive strong afternoon glare. Ambient layers here should complement daylight rather than compete — lower lumen packages (800–1200 lm per 20 m²) with warm dimming curves are standard. See CL-FLD-001 for district notes.
04 — Distribution Strategies
| Room type | Primary method | Secondary method | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open-plan living/kitchen | Continuous linear cove or perimeter slot | Central pendant cluster (decorative, ≤ 800 lm each) | Pendant count limited to avoid UGR breach |
| Bedroom | Perimeter cove or wall-wash | None (task via LUX-02 bedside) | Avoid central downlight over bed axis |
| Dining alcove | Pendant at 1600 mm AFF | Perimeter wall-wash | Dimmed to 50% for daily ambient use |
